The truth is that the Left was looking for any possible thing to bash Bush about, Bush was already being pounded on the Iraq War, and when it happened, he was hammered.
Anyone else would have been defensive, but Bush has never been into trying to deflect responsibility for anything. He just says, "Yep, it was me, now let's move on and get the job done." Our current president puts more effort into deflecting responsibility than he does trying to solve the problems sometimes.
It is actually a very impressive quality of GWB, but it will take history a very long time to sort out his presidency as a result. Of course, the media bashing doesn't help.
Back during Katrina, a news reporter friend who is an expert on hurricanes, having covered them for a large paper for years, was irate with Bush after three days. Yet, he is totally willing to overlook what's going on now in NY/NJ. During Katrina, I pointed out that is wasn't reasonable for FEMA to be there within a couple of days and he corrected me hastily. Yet, I noticed him telling someone else last week she shouldn't be bitching about FEMA not being in NYC until at least 72 hours had passed. I was so tempted to bring up the double standard, but held my tongue. This guy had always done a great job of hiding his political bias until after he retired. I had no idea he was a far left leaner until this election season.
In the end, it depends on whose side of political spectrum you're on I suppose, but you'd think ther ewould be some consistency somewhere. |
