I think StarFire is aimed at going after IBM mainframes and from my
understanding Sun is aggressively going after 3rd world emerging
countries where automation has not yet taken place in terms of
client server technology (such as Gold mining companies in
SouthAfrica, or banks in Pakistan, and eastern block countries).
HP is also after this market share but I think as always Sun will beat
HP as Coke does with Pepsi! Not that Sun does not care much about
the US market with its StarFire but if I am not mistaking and after
talking to some engineers and marketing people at Sun, StarFire's
primarily goal is to replace IBM in emerging countries abroad. And that
is why I think the demand will be good and will offset any negative
effect of an expensive dollar that might have on Sun's other sales
abroad.
