'City Wide Networks' Program Targets 'Have Not' Communities

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Able Telcom Holding Corp. today announced a partnering agreement with 186K, a Boca Raton-based technology firm and hosting facility, that seeks to extend the technology revolution to communities currently limited in Internet access. The two companies will combine their respective expertise in infrastructure engineering/design and high-end Internet Technology to deliver high-speed Internet connectivity, telecommunications and systems integration solutions.

The Able/186K agreement outlines a number of projects targeting both domestic and foreign communities, all under a developmental program called "City Wide Networks." Under the program, Able focuses on infrastructure build-outs and 186K focuses on the delivery of high-end Internet services using Microsoft's Commercial Internet System (MCIS 2.5). The first phase of the joint project calls for 186K to offer Internet solutions to network infrastructure users, for whom Able has already laid down over 5,000 miles of fiber.

"City Wide Networks" is the starting point of initiative set by Able and 186K to extend the reach of Internet services, and will leverage key industry relationships. For example, 186K will co-brand with technology giant Microsoft to offer dial up Internet access to "City Wide Networks" customers, and will provide low-cost advertising alternatives through Promulgate(TM), an advanced technology from the DelFin Project. 186K will also implement wavelet streaming video for online conferencing, the latest in online video technology. Wavelet is a compression technology that delivers TV-quality video many times better than current video transmissions.

"The Able/186K partnership enhances our ability to build strategic alliances in the Internet and e-commerce community," said Billy V. Ray, President and Chief Executive Officer of Able Telcom. "186K has developed key relationships throughout the industry, and they have brought Able into discussions with a number of top-tier industry players."

"There is a lot of industry attention and national recognition of the gap between 'haves' and 'have nots' relating to the Internet economy, and our 'City Wide Networks' program is right on point in that debate. We see the gap and demand for access growing, so we plan to market our unique infrastructure/Internet service partnership to many communities left out of the first wave of technology."

Don Koury, President of 186K, stressed the importance of building strategic relationships. "We want to bring the most state-of-the-art technology to the most people possible; that can't be done alone," said Mr. Koury. "By working in conjunction with companies like Able Telecom and the DelFin Project, we can reach a broad audience with cutting edge technologies like wavelet. Together, I believe we will help communities dramatically improve their technology capabilities."
