My little brother has been really into RC car racing for years. For the hell of it I asked him if he had ever heard of cryogenically freezing car or engine parts and he said his boss at the hobby shop has cryogenically frozen spark plugs and cylinders because they last much longer and you can run the engine harder. He also knew of another RC racer that froze the core of his RC car motors because it makes the electric current flow better and increases performance. After all the criticism on this board i thought the article might have been a hoax so i was a bit surprised when my brother was familiar with it.

So, cryogenic freezing is indeed somewhat common for the purposes described above...but my brother didn't know anything about what this process can or cannot do regarding increasing fuel efficiency.
