Democrats are looking very strong now, and for a long time.
I would hate to be as rightwing Republican candidate of any kind. Almost every single one of their top leaders have been exposed as corrupt and incompetent bastards, at least all the ones allied with Bush and Delay.

McCain may be an exception, but he's walking a very fine line. He has to appease the religious right and at the same time try to appear to be an independent moderate. There's no way he can do that without lying to one side or another.

After Watergate, which 2006 ressembles, the GOP had to wait a few elections to get back into power. When they did, they did so by shedding the weasels of the past and turning over a new leaf. Getting rid of the Bushie weasels will take at least 5 years. Which also means that in 2008, the GOP will be a minority party with a very bad track record. Not likely to rouse a lot of support from anyone. McCain made a big mistake turning down Kerry for the VP job. A huge mistake. It have been his only chance to become president, after Bush-Rove smeared and swiftboated him in the 2000 SC primary.
