Cirruslvr,

<Too bad the Athlon has lost Gateway.>

That may be an over-statement. Gateway has their Athlon line ready to go. It is just a delay - not a good one but definitely not "lost". Gateway seems to have exploited the limited Athlon availability and motherboard delays to get a better deal from Intel. The key for AMD is to ensure that Gateway is in the game by the time Christmas season begins.

Also, Check out this rather nice interview with Raza.

techweb.com

And, to end this post on a positive note. Here is a statement from Mircosoft at Athlon launch.

"The Athlon platform will launch a new generation of high-performance computers that provide an enhanced Windows computing experience for all types of users. Based on our internal testing of Windows 2000 on the AMD Athlon processor, we predict that business customers will be impressed with the performance"

The biggest concern of this AMD long is about the time it takes for AMD to break in to commercial segment and statements from Microsoft like the above really help.

Cheers,
Chuck
