The main problem with NGIO is that it does not go far enough. PCI-X is just a stopgap for the next 18 months. This is not PCI-X against NGIO, NGIO is Intel's proposed replacement for both PCI and it's last variant, PCI-X.

There are other things that can be done with VI architecture and switch fabrics that will really open up the I/O for big systems, but NGIO ain't it. I don't think NGIO is going to get off the pad in its current form.
