Jim,

Whopeee! 9600 sq ft. is about the size of a house in Los Altos. <G>
Actually, that's the size of the average lot, until you get over to the hills. <G>
Mountain View is building a second 7 story building right next to the old ASK headquarters (also a 7 story building) just a quarter of a mile or so from the new RMBS headquarters. In fact, RMBS moved out of a three story building probably 1000 feet down El Camino from the new hq. For the most part, El Camino is the dividing line between Los Altos (generally a bedroom community with "quaint" shopping areas) and Mountain View. It's one of the busiest streets on the peninsula, and probably the only "commercial" part of Los Altos. The real estate is too valuable to not be building taller buildings and I expect that within the next 20 years, El Camino will become a corridor of three to seven (or more) story buildings from San Jose to Palo Alto. In fact, now that I think of it, virtually every other city has three story buildings, including Palo Alto.
Of course, the buildings need to be built to code, but if I were one of the residents along El Camino and had a problem with taller buildings, I'd consider moving now, since it's only going to get worse along there.
