NetSat Express, A Subsidiary of Globecomm Systems Expands Internet
Services In The Americas and The Caribbean
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- NetSat Express, Inc., a subsidiary of Globecomm Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: GCOM - news), today announced that it has awarded a contract to Satelites Mexicanos, S.A. de C.V. (Satmex) for the use of the Satmex 5 satellite.
Under the terms of the contract, NetSat Express acquires access to a full 36 Mhz. transponder on the Satmex 5 satellite. This enables NetSat Express to expand its high-speed Internet and Intranet Access Services via a new 9.3-meter antenna at Globecomm Systems' Long Island International Teleport, in Hauppauge, New York. These services provide a direct connection to the U.S. Internet backbone for ISPs in the United States, Central America, Mexico, and South America.
According to Burt Liebowitz, President and Chief Operating Officer of NetSat Express, ''Adding Satmex 5 to our growing satellite network is a major step in the expansion of our global Internet services. We now have the ability to provide worldwide high-speed Internet and Intranet access services on six satellites, with continuous round-the-clock global management and control from the NetSat Express Network Operations Center.''
Using Satmex 5, NetSat Express will provide a number of Internet services for ISPs, including the NetSat Express Access Plus Connect and Access Plus Receive Only services. The satellite Receive Only service is particularly attractive where a terrestrial infrastructure provides an adequate request channel. By using Access Plus Receive Only, the customer can be up and running quickly and can upgrade to a 2-way satellite system at a later date. NetSat Express offers full end-to-endInternet/Intranet solutions by providing equipment, satellite capacity and teleport services as a bundled service package.
Satmex is a partnership between Principia, a Mexican telecommunications holding company, the Mexican Government, and US-based satellite operator Loral Space & Communications (NYSE:
LOR - news).
