donsurber.blogspot.com Nasty gay piece shows where Democrats are

The Disco Era marked the acceptance of gays in America. Schoolchildren were singing "YMCA" as parents decided the kids would not be in on the joke. Gays were fun, and people like fun.

But the excesses of disco -- particularly cocaine abuse -- led to a fall in favorability. AIDS also did not help. I am convinced that had we quarantined the infected, we could have saved lives. Instead, we treated it as a civil right instead of a venereal disease.

40 years (two generations) later, we have gay marriage and a gay candidate for president, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

The backlash against him comes from the homosexual community. He is not queer enough, or queerty as they prefer.

A very nasty and graphic column appeared in New Republic by Dale Peck, a gay writer.

Ace did a fine job on Sunday as he picked apart Peck's piece. Ace wrote, "I know that paragraph breaks might be heteronormative and not fit with the flibbertigibbet fifteen year old girl style this author is going for, but forgive my trespass."

Peck called Mayor Pete "Mary Pete." Oh to be 15 again.

Looking for a safe example of Peck's writing, I settled on this snippet, "So let's dish the dish, homos. You know and I know that Mary Pete is a gay teenager. He's a fifteen-year-old boy in a Chicago bus station wondering if it's a good idea to go home with a fifty-year-old man so that he'll finally understand what he is.

"He's been out for, what, all of four years, and if I understand the narrative, he married the first guy he dated. And we all know what happens when gay people don’t get a real adolescence because they spent theirs in the closet: they go through it after they come out. And because they're adults with their own incomes and no parents to rein them in they do it on steroids (often literally)."

I cannot top Ace's putdown, but I can put this let's-dish-homos column in political perspective. We all agree that this was over the line. New Republic removed it.

But at the same time the graphic nastiness is a reminder of the excesses of to gay liberals. They are not the two male roommates next door, which is BOOT-EDGE-EDGE's sales pitch. No Peck just reminded America that they also are spiteful gay priders in pink tutus, leather underwear and purple hair.

This is the type of political cannibalism that liberals indulge in from time to time. Drunkard Ted Kennedy's challenge to Jimmy Carter, a sitting president, in 1980 is the best example.

If the election were held today, the Democrat ticket would be Kamala Harris and the gay mayor. Michelle Obama's support of Harris, whom she views as a surrogate, clears the field for her topping the ticket.

Meanwhile, moneyed gay liberals are buying the veep seat for Alfred E. Neuman.

And why not? Money talks. And since black people and Hispanics provide 40% of the Democrat votes, why not let a woman of color head the ticket?

Plus they look nice. That is important. I had a boss who predicted elections based on hair. She was very accurate.

Politicians used to build tickets based on region. Samuel Adams (the man, not the beer) said if you want something done, get a Virginian to do it. This is how Thomas Jefferson got to write the Declaration of Independence (and in hindsight he did a better job than any of them could).

Now instead of going by state, Democrats go by victim group. We still, however, use the Electoral College to elect presidents (and if the college fails, the House with each state casting one vote) as Hillary discovered.

Gay activists believe nominating Buttigieg will further their cause by branding his opponents as homophobic.

His supporters may want to take a look at what happened to feminism post-Geraldine Ferraro. Far from advancing the cause, it took another 32 years to get a second woman on a presidential ticket.

To be sure, a ticket of Harris and Buttigieg keeps the AOC crowd from bailing to a third party.

Instead rank and file will bail to President Trump because Americans tire of the noise on the left. Peck's act of political cannibalism worked. I hope he enjoyed the meal.
