Eric,
Correction - that would be semi-automatic and I read he had two on him, no rifle.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the phrase "automatic pistol" means that "semi-" is implied, right?
Our local high school had armed police sitting in the parking lot most of the day.
Fair enough. That would work better than any gun control law.

But here's the thing. If you can't stop the crazies from getting their hands on guns, then the very freedom to own and bear firearms is at risk.

With the right comes the responsibility, and not just to yourself, but to those around you as well. If you don't want the responsibility, you don't get the right.

Meanwhile I have plenty of friends, some moderately conservative, who are now wondering why we even need the right at all. I too wonder the same thing. If the 2nd amendment went away tomorrow, it's not going to affect me, except maybe in that rare case where I'd need to defend myself, but even then I'm screwed whether I'm packing or not.
