| Bush's Strategy To Attack Vote Counter and Observers as acting fraudently to steal the election from him is extremely divisive. He ran on the slogan "Trust the people." Here is an actual, real moment in time where he could put his slogan, if it really meant anything, into practice. I don't believe for a minute that the vote counters and observers are trying to steal votes for Gore. I trust that all of them, Demos and Repubs, who are actually counting the votes are trying to be fair. Repubs attacked Broward County officials for deciding to count dimpled chads. However, the Texas state law signed by Bush specifically permits dimpled chads to be counted. When that was pointed out to the Montana Gov who was complaining, he had a very ineffective come back. Whether dimpled ballots will be permit is not known yet. Most state supreme courts, Mass., Neb. and others, who had to considered dimpled ballots to decide state elections, did so. If the election comes down to dimpled ballots, which is not known yet, then the Florida Supreme Court will undoubtedly be called upon to decide if they can be used. However, until the ballots are hand counted we won't know if dimpled ballots will even be an issue. People should read the CNN report about how the counting is being done in Palm Beach County. The reporter's story shows that the counting is being done in an orderly, carefully controlled manner. The Republicans are making irresponsible, very divisive accusations. I believe Bush's strategy of attacking these people who are working so hard shows him to be a person of very poor character. |
