The MIT-Whitehead/Affymetrix collaborative effort regarding the large-scale identification, mapping and genotyping of SNPs (single-nucleotide polymorphisms) in the human genome is now finally published in the May 15th issue of Science. One can conceivably assay thousands of genetic markers distributed across all 23 chromosomes, varying from person to person in the human population, in a simple assay on a surface not much more than one cm^2. The journal reference is:
