Its still very much Dangerous back there: I was just given this news story that hit a while back: On June 26,2000 (yesterday) in the evening TV ERA in its prime time news, informative program broadcasted the information about the event that happened in Tetovo and Gostivar. The whole circulation of the daily "Bota sot" in Albanian Language was expropriated from the selling points in the town of Tetovo. In that issue was an article written which was not in favor for the ruling Albanian political party of Mr. Arben Dzaferi. The same night (June 26,2000), after the broadcasting of the information and because of broadcasting it, Mr. Agron Memetaj Chief of the technique in TV Era and brother of the owner of the TV Era was attacked and beaten on the parking place in front of the market house "Makiz" on the entrance of the Old Bazaar (near the TV Era station). Persons who beaten him was identified as high members of the Skopje’s headquarters of Mr. Dzaferi’s political party. The editorial board of TV Era on today’s meeting decided to stop operating in the next 24 hours as a protest fight for the freedom of expression and freedom of media. The decision of the re-start of TV Era will depend on further developments on the whole situation. This is the third attack addressed to TV Era as a medium and to its employees. In the past, because of such an events TV Era was forced to stop operating in order to safe the building of the station and its employees. We would appreciate your intervention to our authorities, in order to protect the media freedom and freedom of speech in our country. Regarding these events we would like to appoint an urgent meeting with the representative of your respective Institution.
