Bush refuses to back Katherine Harris

Supporters of Katherine Harris, who announced her run for United States Senate on June 7th, evidently feel betrayed by the Bushes. Both George W. Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush have been trying to recruit someone else (namely, GOP moderate Allan Bense) to run against her in a Republican primary. They are said to feel that Harris is too polarizing, and that she will galvanize Democrats if she runs.

Harris, while acting as Florida's Secretary of State in 2000, was highly active in the Bush electoral campaign. She is known to have hired a firm to weed out convicted felons from the voter rolls using methods that were intended to (and did) produce tens of thousands of false positives among Florida blacks. She was also rather selective in accepting the hand recounts of various Florida counties, conveniently choosing those that were likely to benefit Bush and refusing to factor the others into the final, certified Florida vote count.

Katherine Harris, who selflessly abused the power of her position, had only the well-being of Bush and the GOP in mind. And what does she get in return for her loyalty? A "stab in the back." Tragic, isn't it? Poor Ms. Harris. Pardon me while I go sob in the corner for her.
