Scumbria - Having designed both computer systems and microprocessors, I can assure you that the complexity of high performance microprocessor hardware far exceeds that of any computer system. I'm sure you're a crackerjack engineer, but can you tell me who designs the Alpha chips? How about all of Tandem's specialty silicon? You seem to have missed a few basic facts about the business that CPQ is in. You do regard the Alpha as a high performance microprocessor, I assume... Where did AMD go for their chip interface? Can you say Alpha? If they're such a powerhouse why didn't they just do it themselves? I have an engineering degree in microprocessor design, so I'm not completely ignorant of the complexities of the business...
