By almost 2:1, Americans across the board say the current U.S. Supreme Court is out-of-step with their own beliefs. Not a single sub-population: not men, not women, not the young, not the middle-aged, not the old; not whites, not blacks, not Hispanics, not Republicans, not Democrats, not Conservatives, not Moderates, not Liberals, not Pro-Lifers, not-Pro-Choicers, not Southerners, not Westerners, not Midwesterners, not Northeasterners b . say todayb .s court is in-step with their own beliefs. When asked whether President Bush's appointment to replace O'Connor will cause the court to become more in-step or more out-of-step, Republicans, Conservatives and Pro-Lifers show marked optimism. Democrats, Liberals and Pro-Choicers show overwhelming despair. Democrats by 10:1 say the court will become more out-of-step as a result of a Bush appointment. Republicans by 5:1 say the Court will become more in-step as a result of a Bush appointment.
