Depends on whether global oil production has a sharp peak and rapid fall, or a long plateau. I lean toward a plateau. Oil is so valuable that people will pay a lot more for it, and that will encourage a lot of extraordinary production effort.

Yes, but people will respond by cutting out all sorts of wasteful stuff like big cars, fancy boats, exotic vacations, bottled water, etc.
