>>Speaking of which, X-RAY, do you know what IBM and Motorola's future plans are for PPC generations.....I never have seen very much from either IBM or Motorola on its chips, at least not until they are about ready for release. Does anyone have info on this?<<

PowerPC roadmap is at:

G3
While the press seems to focus on the G4 as the next big thing, it's my understanding that there will be several iteration of G3s which will be produced well into 1999. These new members of the G3 family will probably receive new names because they will have new design features to improve performance and not just tweaks to improve clock speed. For example. AIM has said in the past that they might include multi-media instruction sets similar to MMX in G3s. G3s are expected to reach 500MHz.

G4
G4s are expected to be out by early 1999. It will be the first 64-bit processor used in Macs. It is suppose to have multiple chips in a single package sharing the same cache. The project should have had a headstart in designing a multiprocessing architechture from lessons learned in 620 project. The G4 will be an extremely powerful series of chips. Here is a good link on G4 (thanks to Bob Boylin for the tip on the link)

I've been thinking about Merced but just so I don't get bashed again for tech rap I'll save it for another time. Let's talk about AAPL!
