Caere has always provided OCR for large scale systems. They acquired this capability when they purchased Calera (Wordscan) several years ago. Calera had a near monopoly on the "big iron" business which Caere did not agressively pursue after the acquisition, and lost considerable market share in that segment as a result. My understanding from a friend of a friend is that the individual quoted in the press release, Scott Dean, really knows his stuff in this segment, so maybe Caere management is placing renewed emphasis on getting back into it.
