Steve: Although the woman I spoke to at TCI was in sales, she seemed well-informed and was pretty specific about fibre optic being a vital component to @HOme's service. I don't know much about how fibre optics interact with co-ax but I sure from whatever exists in currently installed cable lines it is not sufficient to run a cable modem. She described the modem as "True Ethernet" faster than T-1 modems with a download of 128K and an upstream of 500K. I pumped her for info on the company itself she said named Cox and Comcast as their two competitors (also 5% owners). She said TCI owned 60% of the company and the rest was owned by Motorola and Peter Jarmack.
