Jeff, I can't directly refute what you're saying because I am more of an investor than a "technology whiz". Needless to say I've made a good deal of $$ being an investor in technology over the years (primarily with Intel) by doing my homework.

What I can say about your point about Rambus not being "suitable" for servers is that Compaq doesn't appear to agree. In early July Rambus gained the endorsement of Compaq Computer to use Direct Rambus in Alpha Server enterprise computing platforms. This countered criticism that Direct Rambus would not be an effective alternative in the high performance server market.

Futhermore, through my research I have come to believe that Intel's Carmel server chip set will feature Direct Rambus technology sometime in the second half of 1999.

How can you explain this? Are Compaq and Intel barking up the wrong tree? I highly doubt it.

Regards,

Doug
