Without reading the entire paragraph I don't really know. Some possibilities are; Opening purchase A transaction in which the purchaser's intention is to create or increase a long position in a given series of options. Opening sale A transaction in which the seller's intention is to create or increase a short position in a given series of options. Open interest The number of outstanding option contracts in the exchange market or in a particular class or series. Im sure you can find out anything you want to know about options on the CBOE site if you wish. It's a free online learning center put together by the Chicago Board of Options Exchange. I can't think of a better resource to learn about trading options. cboe.com
