War is hell and it takes its toll on the morale of any conscientious soldier. Being a participant is a hard thing to live with. Just the same its not that stunning when you look at the actual statistics.
176 soldiers killed in combat
177 soldiers committed suicide.
Some occupations in the US show higher suicide statistics.

Notice: 165, 068 Murders in the states of the US (except Florida) from 2000 to 2010. Mexico is worse than the US but as luck would have it we are importing Mexican criminals as fast as we can so that may equalize soon. Southern Cal is the worst in the USA.
