Zeev, you are quite right the rejection of federalism by the South was, (and is) a major consideration in the divergence of the regions. Through this vehicle, which was seen by some Northerners as a red herring and by some Southerners as the heart of the issues, the rubber met the road on specifics such as slavery, import taxes, etc. "States rights" continues to be a well debated topic, not just in the south. Fortunately those that agonize over the issues can usually find succor in the constitution. Best, Stitch
