Re: Hotlist Calculations

What I heard long ago (I think from SI management) is that apparently the calculation of the hot list threads has something to do it being a new thread.

New threads with a few posts can jump over old threads with many posts and stay there for a certain period of time.
The sudden activity on a new thread seems to have weight on the calculations.

Good proof of this is the thread I post on, "Trend Setters and Range Riders". This thread has been around for months, but never on the hot list except for the first week. This week we were forced to change to a new, moderated thread when the guru battle was brought to our quiet thread, because the people posting were banned from the gurus thread. Didn't want the dirty laundry on their own thread I guess, that's not good for promotion <G>

The new thread has suddenly been on the hotlist all week, with fewer posts than usual. Only because it is new.

I have witnessed this with many new threads, (note Jorj's new Mu Gamma Lambda thread being on since inception this week...)

And that is also why some Gurus keep starting new threads all the time...it keeps them on the hotlist constantly.
