Yep, that's where having WaveTop as a Premier Channel in IE4 is so valuable, because it's going to be the single biggest attention-getter for Microsoft for the rest of the year, I think. The Microsoft marketing machine will start the Win98 hype long before it's available, and the Sun lawsuit notwithstanding, IE4's going to get a lot of attention (of course the suit itself will draw even more attention to IE4!).

As long as Microsoft doesn't spread themselves too thin, they'll be in the driver's seat when it comes to defining the desktop. They better be really concerned about that, because it's a real possibility. I have shares in Borland that I was going to sell at one point, but am holding because I feel at some point Microsoft, Oracle or a similar company is just going to have to offload some of their language work to focus on other matters - Borland being primarily a language company.
