Soup, explorer 4 is a bit harder than 3 to remove, but quite doable for the expert. An amateur might have alot of trouble.

From a tech's perspective.

I've had several user's at work who insisted on installing Explorer 4 on their NT machines. Our corporate standard is Netscape. Within a few days the whole system was trashed. The user was unable to logon.

Supporting Windows in a corporate environment is a busy venture. I could not afford to have a tech waste time trying to extricate Explorer 4 from the OS and get the user up and running again.

The only quick solution was to reformat the drive and and reinstall NT. This was painless only because the user's had the foresight to backup their data. However, being a research facility, it would have been tragic if the user had not backed up and lost the data. (perhaps if it was important enough, we could have dedicated a tech to spend some time on it. But, that takes time from other users who urgently need support.)

All the same, it's overtime $$ for us so who cares? As a consultant, I can squeeze a mortgage payment from troubleshooting just 5 or 6 of these idiots who insist on installing Explorer 4 for on NT. It just screws the other users who have valid computer emergencies. (Keeps this in mind when tech support doesn't jump to help you get an important presentation to print -- He may be busy with one of you co-workers who has recently lost his ability to access a chat site!)
And the irony of it is that they have to remove it anyway and possibly lose data to boot! I'm laughing to the bank!
