Connecticut has a "safe storage" provision that makes it a crime if a gun is accessible to a minor. If his mother had broken the law, the police would have said so by now as part of the big hoplophobe snowball. There is complete silence, that's how I know the weapons were in "safe storage". Remember Adam also broke into the school so it was in his nature to break and enter to get what he wanted.
