Actually they overbuilt.
They all overbuilt and it is going to cause a lot of pain when they start undercutting each other to drum up business.

Margins are going to go to hell IMO.
Prices will drop regardless of what their input prices do.

I suspect portions will get smaller to help maintain those margins but I doubt it will do much to the bottom line. For the physical health of the nation perhaps its time to toss "supersize me" in the ashcan anyway.

People eat out when they feel wealthy. If home prices start falling and job growth goes in the toilet will an many people feel wealthy (even if oil prices decline)?

As I said, I believe but can not prove this is all the initial beginnings of a shift away from consumption to savings.
