In this guy's opinion, Obama lost his cred with blacks first by getting involved in the Cambridge episode and then stepping back from it. Even though the professor was wrong (he admits), once he'd chimed in, Obama should have found a way to stay his ground - according to this guy. Obama saying he "calibrated" his words incorrectly didn't cut it with blacks - it was a cop out. His point: every black in America has been profiled by the cops and he should have hammered on that instead of backing away.

He thinks he's going to make an even bigger mistake with the beer meeting.

The professor has made his living on racial issues - Whitey is always in the wrong; he's always biased against the black. Gates is going to want his pound of flesh. He's going to want to be deferred to and treated like he has more status than the cop.

He thinks the cop is making a mistake in agreeing to go.

It was an interesting conversation.
