Wrong - they are meant to protect you from loss.
How is car insurance supposed to, for example, stop the other car from ramming into me?

That's what a gun is all about. Stopping the other guy before he shoots me or someone else.

But car insurance can't be abused by criminals the same way a gun can.

Hence it's not the same kind of insurance.
