LAPD Shot Female Paper Carrier, 71, in Manhunt

HER TRUCK LOOKED LIKE FUGITIVE DORNER'S

(NEWSER) – The two people mistakenly shot by the LAPD yesterday in the heat of the manhunt for Christopher Dorner have been identified as a mother and daughter delivering newspapers, reports the Los Angeles Times. Their truck bore a resemblance to the one driven by Dorner, and police spotted it in the early hours while protecting one of Dorner's announced targets. Emma Hernandez, 71, is in stable condition after being shot in the back twice. Daughter Margie Carranza, 47, needed stitches to a finger.

"The problem with the situation is it looked like the police had the goal of administering street justice and in so doing, didn't take the time to notice that these two older, small Latina women don't look like a large black man," says their attorney. About a half-hour after the shooting, officers shot at another truck that looked like Dorner's, but that, too, was a mistake. No one was injured in that incident.
