I'd be surprised if the widow and the son haven't yet been approached.

I quite like the sidestep around the defamation problems by pleading intentional infliction of emotional distress. Rather's clumsy stonewalling might be all that is needed to survive a motion to dismiss based on First Amendment defenses.
