John: Thank you for pointing me to this company. It is a field in which I happen to know quite a bit, I am involved with electro neurological stimulation)

First how does it work? No secret there, a large number of people with incontinence have lost the ability to control the sphincter in front of the bladder. Most current traeatments involves paliation, namely the use of diapers (that is the big chunk of you 16 Billion bucks go, so do not expect that to be their market!!!!), or some catheters (kind of a Foley catheter) inserted into the bladder to empty it.

The procedure works on biofeedback. Electrodes are adjusted in such as way that the contraction of the sphincter (or more accurately, the group of muscles controlling the bladder's sphincter) can be monitored (a flashing light or something like that, I do not know yet the details). The patient learns how to control these muscles by repeating some actions to optimize the rate of reaction from these muscles (which he can now visualize).

A patient which is a good candidate for this procedure (meaning the sphincter was not damaged irreversibly in a major prostatectomy) will learn through a period of few visits to a center how to control his sphincter and then will be healed.

Currently they have only two centers that treat about 4 patients per day. I have no idea what they charge, but even if you assume that they charge $3000 for a full course of treatment, and that eventually a center will treat 100 patients per month (and this number is quite high and need to be verified), a center will have a gross income of $3 MM year, this is a far cry from the billions bandied around.

I am waiting for information from the company to reach me and then I will be able to analyze it in more details.
