<<Does anyone know how big Westbrae is in the Soy/rice beverage market?>>

Stephen:

I don't recall if Westbrae was generating $20 or $40 million...so you may want to look at the press release regarding the acquisition...but I can tell you the following:

Westbrae Soy drinks are the #1 or #2 brand in the marketplace. I'm a vegan (abstain from all animal products) and have been consuming Westbrae's beverages for years...and have personally met with the Westbrae owners a few years back regarding a private label for my own brand...as I own a vegetarian food company. I've tried all the brands on the marketplace and personally find Westbrae the best tasting...or to many--the least offensive. Westbrae and Edensoy are the top two brands. Why? Westbrae uses a "flash off" process during the cooking of the soybeans which releases the green bean flavor into the air...rather than capturing it in the beverage. Many of the other manufacturers do not use a flash off process...and therefore have a very strong, beany taste---which is consistenst with the Asian taste preference...where these products originated from. As for Westbrae's recent releases, they just came out with a line of individual serving size coffee beverages in the same tetra pak carton.

The new products are receiving rave reviews within the natural foods industry and i've given them to my many dairy consuming friends with VERY positive feedback. These same coffee beverages were also pictured on the cover of Prepared Foods magazine last month--a trade magazine for those in the food business....which surprised me given the non-natural foods bent of the magazine...so I can only assume these products are picking up more mainstream appeal.

I hope that helps.
