Storm Technology Files CIS Patent-Infringement Lawsuit Against Visioneer
Storm Contends Its Patent Applies to Any Color Scanning Device Using CIS-Based Technology
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Storm Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: EASY - news), a leading supplier of affordable, high-quality color scanners, this week filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Visioneer, Inc. (Nasdaq: VSNR - news) relating to Storm's CIS (contact image sensor) technology. The suit seeks damages and a permanent injunction prohibiting Visioneer from manufacturing or selling products containing Storm's CIS-based technology. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court in San Jose.
''Storm has invested many millions of dollars in scanner design, ASICs, software and other related imaging technologies,'' said Benjamin Yung, Storm's vice president and chief technology officer. ''We have a continuously expanding portfolio of intellectual properties that we intend to defend vigorously and more specifically, we will be investigating whether other manufacturers of scanning devices are infringing Storm's patented CIS-based technology.''
Storm Technology seeks a permanent injunction prohibiting the manufacture and sale of the Visioneer PaperPort Strobe family of products, which Storm contends infringe Storm's patented CIS-based technology. Storm's patented CIS-based technology uses light emitting diodes for illumination to create scanners that are more durable, efficient and produce high image quality. Storm believes its patent applies broadly to any color scanner, copier, facsimile machine or multifunction peripheral that uses Storm's patented CIS-based technology.
