LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 2002-- Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR), today announced it has entered into an agreement to provide energy efficiency services for Tesco PLC (LSE: TSCO), the largest food retailer in the United Kingdom.
Under the agreement, Emerson Climate Technologies, through its Retail Services organization, will provide Internet-based energy and equipment monitoring technology at 585 Tesco-owned stores in the UK. Installation of this technology is now under way. In addition, 275 of these stores will undergo Emerson's patent-pending E-Commissioning program, a comprehensive energy audit and continuous monitoring process for a supermarket's refrigeration, HVAC, lighting and building control systems to restore peak operating and energy efficiency.
Created two years ago, the Retail Services arm of Emerson Climate Technologies is the leading provider of energy and site monitoring services for the U.S. supermarket industry and other retail chains. More than 2,000 store locations currently use Emerson's remote energy monitoring and services. Tesco becomes Retail Services' first major supermarket customer based outside of the United States.
``We are very proud to have been selected by Tesco to help it achieve its business objective of reducing its operating costs through improved energy consumption practices,'' said Paul Wickberg, president of Emerson Retail Services. ``Tesco is one of the leading supermarket chains in the world. Its decision to use Emerson is testimony to the technology reputation and energy savings results that we are able to provide supermarkets and other chain retailers anywhere in the world. The combined contribution of our facility engineering group at Clive Samuels and Associates, the electronic controls technologies of our Computer Process Controls division, and Retail Services make this type of solution possible for our customers.''
John Ashford, head of engineering for Tesco, commented, ``Our agreement with Emerson is part of our overall program for reducing energy use in our facilities, while improving the products delivered to our customers. Emerson was best suited and prepared for this important program.''
``This is an excellent example of how our customers are able to take advantage of the breadth of products and services available from Emerson Climate Technologies divisions, and how we internally are working together to deliver quality solutions to our customers,'' said Tom Bettcher, an Emerson executive vice president and business leader of Emerson Climate Technologies. |
