an interesting story I found earlier this evening.
Some specialized businesses weather the slowdown better. C.F. Martin & Co. in Nazareth filled half a dozen orders for a new abalone pearl inlaid guitar selling for a pricey - even for Martin - $50,000. Martin also has lately added guitars in the $600 to $1,000 range to its traditional models starting above $2,000.
Chairman Christian F. Martin IV said many devotees remain willing to pay, regardless of recession, for the resonant instruments Gene Autry, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney have played, and 2001 sales rose 15 percent.
