INTEL IS THE BIG FEAR OF PCTL INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS
lets think about it... The market is so BIG that the big guy INTC is coming to it... Intel is the enabler, the new P6 ,P7 INTEL generations will enable video conferencing on your desktop. But the features will be basic, image & sound quality average at least for a few years.
Some folks will not be satisfied with it, they will want more they will go for high end gear stuff to be install in your closest conference room. PCTL is entrenched in that business.
Can Intel take 100% market share of the video conferencing market? my guess is NO: In the same fashion you have PBX for phone you will have PBX for video, the compression decompression of the video signal will not happen 100% on every desktop but at a central point, the pocessing will be shared at the Video-PBX level because it make economic sense.
Last, In the same way Intel did not take over the world of computing (they have marginal presence in the software business and in the networking business) They will not take over the world of telecommunications, all they want is to sell more Pentiums and the next pentiums, you can bet, will make video conferencing cheaper...
In any event PCTL has dominated the industry 10 years, we are now at an inflexion point in the growth of video conferencing. Is PCTL going to surrender? I don't think so.
