Video RAM cache..ABIT BH6..protection error..success!!..oops I mean failure:(

I thought I had this one licked. Everytime I altered a video setting that required the obligatory boot I got an unable to write to ebios error message. I went through a home brew procedure of going to safe mode or to the command prompt or?? a couple of times before the machine would boot. I then encountered a similar problem when I shut down and restart in MS DOS mode..the CAD app would fail with an abnormal program error..almost every time..a couple of boots to safe mode and should would usually kick in.

Then the machine stopped booting all together. It stopped with a SCSI error message. I pulled the Mylex (buslogic) card and the machine started booting again. I replaced it with an Adaptec card and the machine still booted.

It was back to normal..normal is will not boot to DOS mode. And problems with video settings when booting to Win 95. With boots to NT (once the Mylex card was removed) she worked fine)

Then SUCCESS!! I change Video RAM cache from disable to enable in the ABIT Award bios. Voila..no more problems booting to MS DOS mode and no more video errors. Everything seems to work..even contemplating putting the Mylex card back in...

So I am half way through a success post...I decide to boot to bios to make sure I have the correct bios terminology for the Video RAM cache culprit ...I exit bios without saving changes and BAAAAAM...nothing..NO BOOT..NO VIDEO AT ALL..no beeps.

I change video cards...no go....I try my backup Celeron..no go...
My bet is the ABIT BH6 is toast.

I placed an order for an AOPEN BXC..five PCI and three DIMMS. Jumperless and battery less design. I did not do much research but I know Clarence did so I am ready to give it a try. I did not opt for the SCSI option as it was $125 more and I already have several SCSI cards kicking around. If all goes well UPS will deliver ONE AOPEN mobo sometime next week.
