The Storage Setback - one week old article from Red Herring (3.7.01)
catching up on the thread and noticed that this hadn’t been posted

....Two more subtle-but-powerful engines of growth exist for the independent storage vendors. The first is that the International Data Corporation estimates 74 percent of total storage systems sales in 2000 were from sales of direct-attached storage (DAS), which offers a tremendous amount of growth potential for the network storage vendors in the network-attached storage (NAS) or storage-area networks (SAN) sectors to take market share from the DAS vendors. And the second is that there are a great number of private companies addressing some of the limitations of current networked storage architectures.http://www.redherring.com/index.asp?layout=story_generic&channel=%channel%&doc_id=RH1390018139
