Trakker,

Glad to see that we now understand that MO technology is re-writable. Now that's progress.

For those interested, let me update on the most recent advance in MO media/drive technology that will be incorporated into the 640MB 3.5" Fujitsu drive as well as some 5.25" 2.6 GB drives.
It's called light intensity modulation direct overwrite, or LIMDOW for short.

Sparing painful technical details, it allows new data to be written over old data, same as in std. magnetic recording, although using laser pulses. It eliminates the extra disk revolution previously required to erase data before new data is written, in effect doubling the write speed. Been around for years, finally implemented.

Can someone throw out a prediction on when 200 MB Zips may appear? Will there be a demo at Comdex?

Chris
