Steve and All: - Thanks

Steve - You came in right on "Q"......

Many here know I am a fan of the advances in DMT, hence my reason for spending the majority of my time this year, right here.

I have in no uncertain terms, proclaimed my preference to DMT over CAP, many times. The reasons behind my enthusiastic nature of ANSI/ETSI standard DMT, lies in it's Robust Protection against noise interference. Thus allowing a DMT Symbol (data packet) to travel with speed and reliability longer loop lengths.

For those you do not have a degree in Electrical engineering, I say it does not take a degree to understand the basic concepts. Anyone with a little common sense, has the ability to understand degrees of technology. One does not need to know how to fix a PC to use it, and you need not know machine language of 1's & 0's, HEX and Octal to use MS Word.

In my opinion, in trying to describe the difference in quality overall between DMT and CAP, are as far apart as the compact disk and the Phonograph record. I've understood several facts about the advances in DMT since January 1996. Since that time I have put countless hours into placing information here, so that others may benefit, if they choose to use the information. The other free hours during the year, were dedicated to researching news on DSL from around the world, and then finding the time to research the information available from engineers working on the technologies. There is a lot of engineering data out there, an I have only touched the pile. Though I need not to go any deeper. I need all I need to know, when comparing DMT and CAP technologies, except on the new improved versions

The first piece of information I found that got me fired up was from Peter Chow Triple PhD of Stanford U. / Amati Comms Corp. I believe that's a Triple anyway? and I have never corresponded with Mr. Chow.

His was an excellent piece I found back in Jan96. Although it began as a correction to someone else in the DSL industry posting a possible false or misleading statement on the TeleChoice discussion forum.

It was because of this posting I became a defender of misrepresentation. Tactic's I've seen from Globespan and a few others in the industry, would appear to be a Dis- Information Campaign. Some of it is reporters and analysts that want to sound like they know what's going on, but are freeloading, and whipping out articles that show their lack of research and professionalism. Others such as Telechoice are a great source to stay informed on the overall state of ADSL.

Some here have been as bold to say I love Amati and I can't see the downside.
I say to them Horse Hockey.

If I were going to place a bet on one of two cars in a Formula 1 or Indy Car Race, I damn sure would know who has the most advanced reliable technology and performance, not due to advertisers names on the side of the car.

So I have taken the time to put together information from several sources, and tried to use language, that most here can understand, and leave out the in-depth jargon.

Hopefully this will help you to better understand my staunch stance on ADSL/DMT and VDSL/DMT, and hence Amati Communications Corp. and the ADSL/DMT the ANSI/ETSI standard.

Since I entitled my last in-depth piece WHY DSL, I entitle this next piece WHY DMT see the next post.
