Keep in mind that the deal is with MCI not MKE (although they are owned by the same family as someone pointed out earlier). MKE couldn't make the deal or that would look like they were betting against earlier commitments to the LS-120, so MCI did.

I don't think this move means they have decided that the Zip will win out in the long run. It simply means that they are betting on both of the favorites. Whether the Zip or the LS-120 becomes a standard, the Matsushita family makes a bundle.

Don't get me wrong, I think the deal is the most significant announcement concerning the Zip that Iomega has ever made. (Remember that just because Iomega has OEM deals, it doesn't mean that HP or whoever can't also offer competing products.) It should completely remove any supply concerns for quite some time.
