Hi Joe,

>>how much do I have to pay ? Does one pay a flat 8.5 % on the money borrowed or is it adjusted to the number of days that this borrowed money from the brokerage is held ?

You will have to call your broker since brokerage houses have different ways of charging for interest on margin accounts. For example my broker (Merrill Lynch) charges interest on a per day bases. Therefore I pay interest for the borrowed money in my margin account each day. If I buy and sell Intel in my margin account in one day I pay interest for the purchase price for one day.

Your example of borrowing $131,000 for 20 days for 8.5% interest would be approximately $610 if your brokerage firm charges you on a daily bases.

Good luck, Joan.
