CBS is probably still trying to sort out the 'winker vs the 'winkee.

They still say no internal investigation. Rather (and Andrew Heyward, the head of CBS News) still insist that the memos are genuine (but even if they're not, they still raise "important issues"!)

it's hard to imagine that "CBS" was an active participant.

Dan Rather's role is critical. He is the public face of CBS News. And every "fact" he comes up with is shot down by the sharpshooters of not only the Web but now the Washington Post and ABCNews and FoxNews. But not only does CBS News not acknowledge any other reality but their own, they are now attacking as partisan political hacks the experts they themselves consulted who said the memos were likely forgeries. (Keep in mind CBS does not have any originals, only copies, of the memos).
