If you can get it look on the front page of the Sabn Diego Union Tribune - there is quite a story on it. Realistically, this case has nothing to do with Viracept as none of the scientific data could be of benefit to the development of Viracept.

If a civil case had merit, the plaintiff would have to show that the alleged theft of data somehow caused UCSD or one of it's licensees to suffer material damages. By that, I mean loss of profits from royalties the plaintiff should have recieved.

From reading the article, I gather that the extent of the possible damages is a loss of glory or prior discovery claim to a researcher. How do you put a price on that?

I believe that this can in no way impact the bottom line of a company which appears to be headed on a multi $10^8 financial trajectory. It however appears to have inspired some emotional sales or short sales recently.
