Thanks Christine for the nice post, and yes, the weekend was a good one. I know from time to time you like getting out into the country and taking in a whole lot of fresh air and what nature has to offer. It doesn't really solve any of the problems we face, but it does have a remarkably soothing and rejuvenating effect on one's spirits. I spent much of the weekend cutting firewood in a woods way over on the other side of the state in the brisk 20 degree air. I also enjoy the long drive back to the city that takes you through many out of the way rural areas....it's amazing how many little places there are "out there" which are someone's home town - the center of their world - that city folk never pay attention to on a day to day basis.
>>>>>There are a lot of hidden jewels on SI. It's almost like prospecting for emeralds (one of my favorite gemstones; I don't like diamonds, but I digress). People really are becoming friends here; I am always amazed by how few barriers there are to all kinds of relationships started at SI, because they are very real. Real laughter, anger, tears, comfort and love come right through cyberspace.<<<<<<<<
Remember how we used to discuss if this is all virtual, or just another means of communicating like 3D talking, writing letters, or a phone call?? I've never had a problem visualizing the living, breathing, caring people on the other side of many of these words. It is indeed a powerful way to make friends though by first knowing them from their thoughts and feelings, rather than by appearance as we do in "3D" when often you don't know what the person who you are with is thinking. Maybe forming friendships "from the inside out" as we do here is actually preferable to how it's done in the "real world", and we are indeed reinventing how some friendships/relationships will be made in the future.?? I hope you find some emeralds in all of your prospecting! Take Care!, Bill |
