Hsi-chih, Taiwan, July 24 (Bloomberg) -- Acer Group, Taiwan's largest computer and components maker, said it sold a 10 percent stake in its memory module unit Apacer Technology Inc. to California-based Silicon Storage Technology Inc.

The companies declined to disclose the value of the transaction. The sale involved shares owned by Acer Group, so no capital will be injected into closely held Apacer.

The transaction brings together one of the world's largest third-party memory module makers, Apacer, with a flash memory company. Flash memory chips, used in products such as mobile phones and electronic organizers, have been in short supply.

``Apacer's competitive advantage lies in worldwide marketing and distribution,'' said Silicon Storage President Bing Yeh in a statement.

The alliance means ``both parties will benefit from the increasing demand for flash-based memory products,'' Acer said.

Apacer posted sales last year of NT$12.6 billion ($406 million) and is targeting sales this year of NT$16.8 billion. Founded in 1997, it employs about 200 people worldwide.

Silicon Storage last week reported second quarter sales jumped 349 percent on year to $103 million.
